Hi I'm using a window 7.
I'm having trouble with the new macfee update,
it's causing my computer to have a bluescreen when it
updates to the new version and renders it not operatable. I would have to
keep on systeming restoring. I was wondering
if there's a fix for it or something or
it's just not compatible with window 7?
McAfee is fully compatible with Windows 7 both x86 and x64. I'm using it here.
Using System Restore makes your protection stale-dated so not a good idea.
Completely uninstall using the Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program.
Run McAfee's Removal Tool (linked under Useful Links above) and reboot.
If it states that it was unsuccessful, then run it again and reboot.
Install a fresh copy of the new product from your online account.
Blue screens or BSOD's are often caused by hardware and/or driver issues so make sure that everything is in order inside you computer and that Windows is totally up to date with both critical and non-critical updates from Microsoft Update (that option fetches updates for everything in your computer).
A blue screen being caused by a software update is symptomatic of a deeper issue and is probably because that update merely triggered something that was going to happen eventually anyway.
Let me know how it goes and good luck.Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 23/05/10 7:18:21 EDT AM
I've had to system restore because once the program installed it will just
cause my system to go into bluescreen and I won't be able to use it.
I've tried to completely uninstall it and reinstalled it but after the reboot
it just causes my computer to bluescreen. I've called mcafee too
and they haven't been able to resolve it and another technician told me
that it was a compatible issue and that there's no known fix for it at the moment
I see. My computer's pretty updated with the new microsoft updates. So I'm not
sure what to do at the moment.
- thank you
We will need to know the exact version of Windows 7 that you are using and whether or not 32 bit or 64 bit.
Also can you open your current version of SecurityCenter by double-clicking the taskbar icon and then clicking About and post what it says for the version numbers please?
I'm using a 64 bit system.
Unfortunately it's not possible to open up anymore because
I had to system restore my computer a few times because
it would automatically update my computer
It is the verison right before the new update.
thank you very much
Right-click Computer and select Properties and tell me what version of Windows 7 please.
I know you are back to the older product that's why I need to know what version it actually is.
Did you try the uninstall, cleanup and reinstall I suggested?Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 23/05/10 9:49:44 EDT PM
I've uninstalled it as the technician had suggested.
So I'm not sure what the verison is.
I'm attempting to reinstall it a second time to see what will happen.
Um what do you mean by clean up?
