I clicked on a family history site today and siteadviser flagged it up as yellow with reports that downloads try to change browser settings.
I closed the browser at once and ran a full scan which was ok, then I thought I’ll be clever, in case it has simply changed a setting that might not show as a virus/malware I would do a system restore to the 22nd.
After system restore McAfee warned it was not fully protected, on demand scanning and some other functions were disabled. Clicking the fix box did not sort it out and an error report came up.
I undid restore and McAffe came back on. Is this likely to be something dodgy or could it be McAffe has updated it’s self in the last few days and system restore simply took out part of the update?
Thank you for your quick reply, I only tried the "Fix" button. I wondered if I should click on update, but at the time I didn't want to dig myself in any deeper! so I reversed the restore.
I might try again by way of a test to see what happens as long as it's not likely to cause any problems.
I know sometimes when the Mcafee on my other machine, a laptop, is out of date (it doesn't get connected to the net often) the "fix" button doesn't seem to take me back to"green tick" status and I have to update manually.
Looking at the link you sent though, it seems that perhaps it's no longer possible to use system restore with McAffe without uninstalling it, or am I reading it wrongly?
It is possible, that FAQ is only meant so that you avoid any problems at all. I find that I can usually do a System Restore, then right-click the taskbar icon and select Updates. That usually cures it.
If not then go through the uninstall/reinstall routine.
