I am trying to install McAfee on a new Windows 8 box and the installation hangs with the splash screen as shown below:
Nothing then happens. There is no progress bar, hour glass, revolving arrow or anything that would indicate anything is happening. Task Manager shows that it has got some memory but everything else is at 0% (CPU etc).
Worse still, it is impossible to get rid of the splash screen, minimise on it doesn't work, the 'Label' buttons don't do anything, neither the process nor the application respond to End Task.
The only way I have been able to get rid of it is to use the McAfee Remove Product Tool.
I've tried this installation 3 times now with the same result. I'm beginning to think I should take Norton up on their offer with this PC!
The "Label Label" thing tells me that there's something wrong with your Internet Explorer (McAfee uses it regardless of your choice of browser) and you may need to try the steps outlined here: https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-3000
That means a Microsoft DLL is missing or corrupted, Have you been using any kind of registry cleaner, PC speeder-upper or the like? If so see if they have a restore tab to undo the damage that they invariably cause.
Alternatively use System Restore to go back to before all this happened but don't forget to update everything including McAfee afterwards.
There's an article about scrrun.dll missing here: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/scrrun-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm
There's also a Microsoft Fixit: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9648765
Alternatively get Technical Support working in it, free by phone or online chat and linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.

It was actually due to me not running cmd as administrator. All three of the dlls responded without error once I ran it as admin.
Next stop Technical Support.
Thanks for your help.
Yes those sorts of things require an elevated command prompt usually. Good luck ;-)
Here's how to keep a shortcut to an elevated command prompt in Windows 8. See 'Related Tutorials' at the bottom of the first post here: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2754-elevated-command-prompt-open-windows-8-a.html
I use it a fair amount so having a shortcut is great.Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 28/10/13 7:34:48 EDT AM
I had the same issue when installing McAfee Plus onto my windows 7 PC.
I used the pre install software download from McAfee.
I tried installing through internet explorer 10, the box came up with the two "Label" boxes as above photo.
I ended up having to create another user account, named it Test. Then I shut the PC down and restarted logging in to the Test account.
I then loaded the McAfee software in this account. Once loaded I then shutdown and restarted in my normal user account. Checked the McAfee software worked all ok.
I then deleted the Test account.
