McAfee and Mozilla Firefox

Ok so just got a subscription to McAfee after mine expired. I went from the 3-user one to a 1-user one and now i cant open Mozilla Firefox. Its slow to open and takes 15 minutes or more to bring up my home page. After it brings it up it takes it another 10-15 minutes to fully download the page and when you try to navigate away from the page its another 15 minutes. I contacted customer support via email and they told me that i would have to call tech support. i just now got the email verification for the forums so i am turning to you guys now. Help me please! i really need to be able to use my internet and not have it take all day to get to 2 sites. Thank you.:confused:

Make sure that Firefox is the latest version - Help/Check for updates.

Check that Windows is totally up to date while you are at it.

As you switched type of product although basically the same, things may benefit from a complete cleanout as follows...

Temporarily enable Windows Firewall.

1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".

2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MC... This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)

3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!
In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
If you can't find these files don't worry. It just means that MCPR has done its job.

4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site.

If you are McAfee direct customer, go to https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protected/Login.aspx and log in to download your McAfee products.

If you received your McAfee products from your service provider, please use the list below to download your software.

Comcast users should go to http://security.comcast.net/ and log in to download your software.

Cox users should go to http://www.cox.net and log in to download your software.

DELL users should go to https://us.mcafee.com/root/login.asp?affid=105 and log in to download your software.

Gateway users should go to https://us.mcafee.com/root/login.asp?affid=370 and log in to download your software.

eMachines users should go to https://us.mcafee.com/root/login.asp?affid=365 and log in to download your software.

MSN users should go to http://membercenter.msn.com/ and log in to download your software.

AOL users should go to http://daol.aol.com/security/ and log in to download your software.

If it continues check other Firefox add-ons for compatability by disabling them one by one.

If that doesn't help, contact technical Support Chat - link at top left of this page.

Thank you very much for the advice on how to take care of this problem. After two times of having to run the MCPR i was finally able to remove all files and get on with everything else. I would like to say though that the article you linked is no longer on the website. I was able to find the tool through the website though. Again thank you!Smiley Happy
