Was having trouble getting SecurityCenter to update properly on an old PC running XP. MVT said I had 90 issues and it could not fix them all.
So, I unstalled SecurityCenter using Add/Remove programs and MPCR. Now my Intel PRO/100 VE network adapter is not working properly and I cannot get on the internet. Used device manager to uninstall and reinstall the adapter. I get an error message saying that the adapter did not install properly.
Note that I downloaded the latest MPCR before I did the uninstall.
Please help me get back on the internet. After that, I'll reinstall McAfee.
You may need to reinstall the actual software from Intel - listed under Ethernet Controllers here:
Save it to a USB stick or similar so you can transfer it to the machine without the connectivity.
It's been a while since I used XP as my main OS (now only have it in a virtual machine) but I recall having many an issue with connectivity and usually installing just a driver wasn't sufficient, you have to install the whole software package.Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 23/03/13 2:02:02 EDT PM
I'll try that.
Also, I just found an old post where I had a similar problem before. The post is at:
I have the ghost network adapters as described there.
You may close this thread. I'll open a new thread if the driver update or the old post do not help me. Thanks!
Well we don't usually close threads unless people spam them or otherwise make themselves unpopular. but post back if not successful and then we'll work from there.
Technical Support is probably your best bet if it doesn't work.Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 23/03/13 2:46:24 EDT PM
