Latest McAfee Annoyance: colorful popup ads. <soapbox mode>Nothing like giving a presentation to the General Manager and having popup ads come up. I would prefer not to have to switch away from McAfee, but even with all alerts disabled, three of our computers have displayed such ads. We're trying to run a business here and this viral activity is so lame as to make one wonder if McAfee is trying to reduce business sales. </soapbox mode> So how do I turn off the advertisements when "informational alerts" and every other alert option are disabled already?
I am getting the same popup ads. I have 14 months to go on my subscription too. These McAfee ads are very annoying and I cannot turn them off. I have called 4 times and no one at McAfee has a clue about them or how to stop them. Anyone figured out how to disable their sales pitch ads?
3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one! In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming If you can't find these files don't worry. It just means that MCPR has done its job.
4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site.
Thanks for the great information. Per McAfee's request yesterday, I sent them a screen shot of the offending pop up ad. I will give them a day or 2 to see if they have a quick fix. If not, I will try your suggestions.
Good luck. I tried turning off all alerts options in my Security Center and then disabling VirusScan and I got the pop-up once. Not sure how long it would take until it popped up again as I wasn't gaming or anything, but maybe they will have a solution.
