Blue update dot stuck

Jump to solution

The little blue dot has been sitting on the McAfee icon for a day.  I can't open the software.   When I hover over the McAfee icon/blue dot,  it says "Downloading updates 0%."  I right clicked and "canceled" the update and a second later I got the window asking me if I wanted to get the updates.  Great.  So I clicked yes, but the blue dot is still there, still stuck.   I right clicked again but I get a blank window (but there are two arrows on the far right of the window).

FWIW I did shift my default browser from IE to Firefox.  Day before yesterday.

I have Internet Security, 2016

Windows 8.1

Thanks for any help.

Try rebooting the machine....a complete restart.

If it persists afterwards, run the Virtual Technician as it can often fix problems.

I had rebooted, didn't work.

Ran the VT, said it fixed something but the dot was still there.   Ran it again, same thing, so I rebooted.   Dot was gone so I opened the software, checked for updates and it did download and install them.  So I guess the VT worked.  Thanks a lot!

Glad it worked.  Good luck 😉
