BitDefender Threat Scanner Error Message

Jump to solution

I'm running Windows 10 Pro. Recently I've been getting a pop up Windows error message telling me "A problem has occurred with BitDefender Threat Scanner and a dump file has been generated and saved in Windows TEMP folder"

When I check the folder there is a .dmp file for every occurrence of the error message. Now I have searched my PC for any instance of BitDefender and cannot find any. I do not remember downloading or installing any such program. Other than the error message the computer seems to be functioning as normal.

Any help on how to remove this would be appreciated.

--First, have you searched the Registry for instances of BitDefender?

Make sure your user name has Administrator status.

Windows key + R

Type in regedit and hit Enter, OK any prompts.

Highlight the top "Computer" line then click Edit > Find.  Type in BitDefender & click OK.

Delete any instance found by simply clicking Del.

If several lines exist in the Entry in the right-hand column delete them all, but always be careful they belong to the same application.

To find next instance click F3 & continue on from there.

Do you use (or have you ever used) Spybot Search and Destroy as it has been known to throw up this error?

Thanks, No I've search for Spybot and didn't find that on my computer either. I've followed your directions and deleted all instances of bitdefender. So far, the message has not popped up.

---Sounds good.

Take care when updating or downloading/installing software that no 3rd party software is bundled with it.  Things like this often happen because of this.

Good luck 😉
