Full Backup Secondary ESM

Jump to solution

Hi Everyone, we are preparing to upgrade our SIEM enviroment and i want to know if is it possible to perform a full backup from the Secondary ESM. I know that when a i try from the GUI of the secondary ESM i get the error "The requested operation is no allowed while the ESM iis in a redundant mode .(ER363), but myabe i can perform the full backup throug the CLI.

The goal of this is to try to not have a service disrupt while the full backup is performed.

Thanks in advanced.

Regards!

We do not have any CLI commands.

In version 11.x, the ESM services do not get stopped while taking a full data back up.

Thus, the services will not get disrupted.

The services used to get stopped when taking a full back up in 9.x & 10.x versions.

Thus you can feel free to take a full back up from the Management node (Primary ESM) in 11.x version.

If you are on a 10.x version, you can switchover and make the Secondary ESM the Primary ESM while the backup is in progress on the original primary ESM.

In 10.x version, you also have the option of removing the Secondary ESM from the redundancy configuration, then take a full back up on the Secondary ESM node and after the backup completes, you can re-add it back to the redundancy page.

By doing the above procedure, the sync will get reinitiated when the Secondary ESM is added back to the Redundancy page.

Please refer the below KB articles as well for taking backup in 11.x version.
