ELM planning

Does anyone know of a measurement to use in order to plan for elm log sizing?  I would like to take a datasource event total and multiply by said number in order to calculate an approximate size requirement.  So if an elm log was 1 mb for each event and a datasource has 10,000 events per month I would be able to calculate that it would need approximately 10,000 mb per month in storage.

Re: ELM planning

@Sammy1, this might be a little high of an estimate. Most events don't get into the 1MB size, let alone very deep into the KB size. If you consider simple ascii encoding, 1KB(byte) is over 1000 characters.

The ELM also compresses data, under the hood it's just zlib. Depending on the verbosity of the logs, and how much similarity there is between them. It is pretty reasonable to expect between 4:1 to 10:1 compression ratio.

The best way to estimate this is to have some sample data that would be collected, and simply compress it with gzip.
