Vulnerability scanner stuck at 50%

The McAfee vulnerability scanner has been stuck at 50% for over 12 hours now.  It currently says "scanning:Windows" completed 50%. How long should this process take? I've never noticed this before.  Very grateful for any advice!

Mine did that once so I cancelled it in Task Manager and then altered settings to ignore Windows Updates as you can check those separately anyway.

Just end task and try what I suggested.

It probably stuck at trying to reach a server.

Just to verify all is OK run the Virtual Technician and if that indicates issues it can't deal with, the same page has the link to Technical Support (look for Contact Support), which is free of charge.

Thanks I did as you suggested and altered the settings to ignore Windows Updates and the scanner runs through properly now!

How do I check the Windows Updates myself?

               Simply click on your 'Windows Action Center' (White Flag) in the bottom of your lower Task Bar/Open it/Click on Windows Updates/Check for updates.

Start > All Programs > Windows Update

You have to be logged in as an Administrator level user to do it.
