Requirements for low use lab instance of VM-IPS-100

From p3 of Virtual IPS release notes (NSP8.1, Rev A), it looks like a minimum of 3 cores and 48GB RAM is required.  As I would say this is directed more to production requirements, how much would we be able to lower this in a lab environment, with very very low usage?  Would we be able to get away with 1 core and 16GB?  What about 1 core and 8GB?  We can play around with this, however I was just looking to gauge thoughts on this from the community if possible?

Thanks in advance!
