NSM OS Upgradation

Dear All!

I really need help.We have following setup on our network:

1 Manager

5 Sensors

Manager Status:

1.Installed on McAfee NSM appliance

2.Windows OS: Microsoft server 2008R2

3.MDR : Not Present

4.MGR Version 9.2.9.12

 

Now I want to upgrade my NSM OS from server 2008 to 2012 or 2016.Tell me :

1.which version is the stable and reliable version of OS?

2.What is the EOL for windows based version?

3.Latest release of MGR is 10.x version MLOS

4.MLOS means Mcafee provides OS for NSM?

5.What are the requirements if I upgrade my windows based MGR to Linux based MGR?

A- Upgrading the NSM Appliance OS server from 2008 t0 2012 will invalidate the NSM appliance warranty.

1.which version is the stable and reliable version of OS?

A- All the NSM version are stable and reliable

9.2.9.12 , 9.2.9.55 and the 10.1.7.4

2.What is the EOL for windows based version?

A-Windows server 2008 cannot be used for NSM version 10.1.x.x

3.Latest release of MGR is 10.x version MLOS --

A -The latest version is 10.1.7.7

4.MLOS means Mcafee provides OS for NSM? --

A-- NSM Appliance is now installed MLOS

5.What are the requirements if I upgrade my windows based MGR to Linux based MGR? --

Below are the answers to your questions:

 

1.which version is the stable and reliable version of OS?

The release notes has the supported versions for 2012 or 2016 that you can install for your current NSM version

2.What is the EOL for windows based version?
Answer: This only appies for old NSM appliances ,

The end-of-life for Windows-based Appliance has been declared and the end-of-life is on 1-Apr, 2023. McAfee recommends you to migrate from Windows-based Appliance to Linux-based Appliance.

Just Select Network Security Platform, and check for the McAfee IntruShield / Network Security Platform -Manager Appliance

3.Latest release of MGR is 10.x version MLOS
Answer: Latest 10.1.x MLOs version is 10.1.7.7, and you can download it with your Grant# from our download site.

NOTE: The Manager software 10.1 is not supported on Windows-based Appliance. The end-of-life for Windows-based Appliance has been declared and the end-of-life is on 1-Apr, 2023. McAfee recommends you to migrate from Windows-based Appliance to Linux-based Appliance.


4.MLOS means Mcafee provides OS for NSM?

Answer: MLOS is a Mcafee Linux OS which is a closed linux shell where the NSM runs and it comes with the linux installation package file that you can download from the McAfee download site.


5.What are the requirements if I upgrade my windows based MGR to Linux based MGR?

Below is the documentation for migrating the Windows based NSM to a linux based NSM
