NSM 10.1 Azure Deployment - Database set questions

Jump to solution

I am attempting to setup the NSM 10.1 using the Azure image with PlanID: mcafee_vnsp_nsm_10_1_7_40

Some things do not seem to be working out-of-the-box and need some clarification.

1. Running the command: database start

returns:
Starting mariadb (via systemctl): [ OK ]

Running the command database status

Returns:
ERROR! MariaDB is not running, but lock file (/var/lock/subsys/mysql) exists
Unable to get the status of the service mariadb. Please make sure the mariadb is properly installed

Question: What is the process to configure mariadb properly, as this isn't mentioned in the Product Guide, or installation guide for 10.1?

2. Access to dbShell using the admin credentials and default password are working.

Running the Database command : SHOW DATABASES;

returns:

Number of rows affected : 5

-But it does not show any databases. Trying to access the lf database does not seem to work
Running the database command use lf;  Returns: Number of rows affected : 0

3. Attempting to change the mysql password results in the openSSH connection disconnecting

running the command: run passwordchange.sh

returns:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/bin/.restrictShell.py", line 3197, in <module>
prompt.cmdloop()
File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/cmd.py", line 142, in cmdloop
stop = self.onecmd(line)
File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/cmd.py", line 221, in onecmd
return func(arg)
File "/bin/.restrictShell.py", line 2359, in do_run
os.chdir("/home/admin")
OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/home/admin'

- A premission Denied also occurs when running run changeDbRootPass.sh. This also occurs when running the command in the debug shell after running 5n3ak1n.

**Please advise on how to get mariadb properly running and advise on how the password can be changed. If this should be working out of the box, is the best course of action to reinstall the Azure image?

Hello @wohlebnt_HZA

MariaDB is bundled with NSM installer. So, there is no additional configuration required to get MariaDB installed.

It appears there had been some issues with database during installation. I would suggest to get a new instance running.

In case the issue persist with new instance, please reach to support for more investigation.

Faizan

Deploying a different version of the Azure VM worked.. sort of. database status still returns error and only accessing the the debug shell can you check the actual status of the mariadb process.

McAfee support does refuse to give access to the debug shell, even though the documentation says access will be given upon request.

Hello @wohlebnt_HZA

The backend access is available only for Support and Development Teams. Unfortunately, the credentials cannot be shared.

Commands required for managing NSM are made available in general shell. If you are looking for something  specific you may ask support team and they might have an alternative to get things done.
