Database Tuning - Manual V's Automated

Hi All,

Is anyone using the automated tuning feature to perform their database tuning? If so have you encountered any issues with it?

Does it take longer than performing manual tuning?

Please share any advice or comments you have on manual or automated tuning and your experiences with it.

Thanks

Peter

Re: Database Tuning - Manual V's Automated

It seems that the only way to tune large DB's is off line. The tuning task will fail after 4 hours if it is run online.

Re: Database Tuning - Manual V's Automated

Hi Peter

Base don my own experience, automated db tuning works fine.

However we still see the requirement or running a manual purge every now and then (2-3 months) to keep the db size within limits

David

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply.

How large are your databases and how long does the tuning process take on them?

Regards

Peter

Re: Database Tuning - Manual V's Automated

Hi Peter

Apologies for the (very) delayed response.

We've had 50-60GB databases going down to 15GB after manual purge with tuning. The process takes about an hour or a bit more depending on how big is the db when starting.

Regards

David
