I am migrating an existing NSM with two sensors from one environment to another, as part of the migration I will have to change the host name of the NSM server .Can someone assist regarding the same ?
I looked around for documents but no luck. I did come across an article stating "we Should stop NSM services and then , change the windows hostname and run "keycertgen.bat" on C:\Program Files\McAfee\Network Security Manager\App\bin ?"
Can someone clarify on this process as I haven't done this before and fail to understand the steps.
thanks in advance.
This sounds like a question you will want to ask McAfee support.
I'm not sure how many places the server host name is used in the NSM, but I know the MySQL error logs use the server hostname. You could cause issues on the NSM that you may not notice.
What was the article you refer to above?
Do you have the option to do a fresh install of NSM on another server and and just restore an All Tables backup on to it?
Agreed, the change in name is going to have impact on many stuff that includes our SIEM log/event consolidator which again is relying on the device name. unfortunately I don't have the privilege of fresh installation on another server as its more of a take over of device from another Vendor.
Considering the various factors involved, we decided to stick with the current naming, but its still something I would like to know the process as it may help in future cases.
