what is this CRYPT16.EXE ? ? ?

My company (corporate) laptop running XP Pro SP3 with McAfee Enterprise VirusScan + AntiSpyware 8.5i in it. For several days my laptop running weird, Google and Yahoo web search engine not finding relevant web pages, I can't delete items in my Google mail, if I launch "Search" to find local file I get to "Data Execution Prevention" pop up and Windows Explorer crashing. So I made research using another computer and found how to get to "System Properties" > "Performance Options" to this "Data Execution Prevention." When I clicked on "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select," the "Windows Explorer" was listed, so I selected, deleted it and rebooted. Still the web search not finding web sites, so I went back to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab and found the "Crypt16" which I immediately deleted, found "D:\Windows\System32\Crypt16.exe" which I promptly deleted then rebooted. So far so good now I can find web sites easy, delete stuff in my Google mail easy. How come McAfee can't even tell if this Crypt16.exe  as trojan?

RE: what is this CRYPT16.EXE ? ? ?

It would appear to be malware. Forward it to McAfee Avert Labs if you can:

Send a file to Avert for analysis:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/submit-sample.aspx
or
https://www.webimmune.net/default.asp
or
Email file to: virus_research@avertlabs.com
When submitting samples via E-mail all samples must be packaged in a .ZIP file. When creating this .ZIP file, it is important to understand that the .ZIP can be no more than 3 megabytes in size and can contain no more than 30 files. Additionally, any .ZIP file created must be password-protected using the password "infected" (minus the ""). Failure to follow these guidelines will cause your submission to be rejected.
