trojan detected but no location given Artemis!16F81B56A0A6

McAfee says it has detected a trojan but doesn't give the location or file information of the suspected trojan. How can I find it out?

THe actual message is as follows:

Trojan Detected

McAfee has detected an infected item in a shared folder on your network. To remove the threat, right-click the folder, change its properties to allow full acess, and then click Scan.

About This Trojan

Detected: Artemis!16F81B56A0A6 (Trojan)

Quarintined From:

We can not remove a Trojan while the infected file is in a shared folder on your network. Allowing full access to the folder frees up the infected file allowing McAfee to fix the issue.

I don't have any shared folders on my computer and would like to see the file or culprit before McAfee does anything with it. Any ideas on the subject?

Thanks in Advance

benji0001,

We can find out the detected threat details inside McAfee Console but I need to know the version of McAfee you are using on your machine

Open McAfee Console

Click on About (bottom right corner / top right corner)

Get me the version of McAfee Security Center

Re: trojan detected but no location given Artemis!16F81B56A0A6

Are you getting this Trojan detected message frequently or it’s just a onetime  message.

What is Artemis ?

Artemis isn’t actually a trojan. If you indeed have an infection, it probably has another name that is just still unknown. This is just a generic name for trojans discovered by McAfee’s security software. If it has discovered a trojan and gave it this name, that means it is already on the case, and you need not do anything more

Re: trojan detected but no location given Artemis!16F81B56A0A6

my big question is where is the file located that McAfee is calling out. it doesn't show any location information.

Re: trojan detected but no location given Artemis!16F81B56A0A6

It should be listed in your Quarantine Folders.  OIpen SecurityCenter > Navigation > Quarantine and Trusted Items and more details should show there than on that report.

That may help provide more clues as to its origin.

Re: trojan detected but no location given Artemis!16F81B56A0A6

Meanwhile I've moved this to the Artemis section so that department can spot it, hopefully, and possibly provide more information.  Who knows it may be a false detection.

I also altered all the headers to include the Artemis number.
