Clicked a link on internet. Firefox crashed and then popups saying my computer was infected, do you want to download virus removal software started appearing. Random scans will also appear that i did not prompt showing my computer is infected and asking me to download something. I tried openning Mcafee, but before it can open a window appears telling me the application example.exe is infected, and then asks to activate virus removal. even if i don't try to open anything that same window pops up every 40 seconds saying different things like wuauclt.exe, trustedinstaller.exe svchost.exe, mcshell.exe, mbam.exe are infected. also every 5 minutes or so a random web page pops up promoting porn or viagra or something. I have not clicked yes to any of these prompts because i figure it's just maleware trying to get me to download a trojan. I also downloaded Malwarebytes, but the popup would not let me run it. So i restarted in safe mode, ran malwarebytes. It found 5 infected files, some malware stuff and a trojan dropper thing i think it said. It said it removed it and restarted. When computer rebooted, popups were still occuring and still can't run mcafee. please help!!!
If you suspect you're infected and have trouble finding what is causing the infection, I'd suggest giving this handy tool a try.
