Apparently this virus has slipped past my McAfee protect and infested my pc. Several major files have been affected including Dreamweaver and Word file. Any helpful thoughts on how this happened and most importantly what I should do?

Thank you

,

Usually once your files become encrypted, they are almost impossible to recover. Here is a Removal Guide from a 'Highly Reputable' Site. It helps to inform you how you may have contracted this virus in the first place.

Remove CryptoWall 3.0 virus (Files Encrypted Ransomware)

Good Luck,

At the first sign of trouble in future, immediately power off your machine, restart into Safe Mode and see if you can use System Restore to wind back to before it happened.

If successful, temporarily turn System Restore off which then deletes the infected restore point.

See:  Anti-Spyware/Malware/Hijacker Tools for some advice.

I might add to Colleague Ex_Brit's valuable advice. If you still have issues after following that 'Removal Guide'. Kindly go to the Link he suggested ( Actually Peter is the one whom published it )  Scroll down the Document and seek assistance from the Specialists at Bleeping Computer/Hijackthis or Malewaretips.

They deal with issues as such on a routine basis.
