Ever since I've had my Acer Aspire 5532 Laptop (With Windows 7) I've had McAfee protecting it. A few months ago, only a short time after I downloaded Windows Live Messenger I somehow recieved a virus, and I've been sending wierd/random messages to people on my contact list. I scanned my computer using McAfee, but it didn't pick up anything at all. I really want to get this removed, but I'm not sure how. The Windows Live website is no help/I haven't found anything useful on there.
If you have suggestions where to go from here, it would be much appreciated.
Please download and use the McAfee Stinger Tool on the machine and follow the instructions on the site HERE
Once you have set the settings and the scan is complete, click on "File" (top left) and select "Save report file"
Please upload the log file results here.
Can you please describe some of the symptoms you are seeing on your machine.
1) Are you seeing any annoying pop-up messages anywhere on your screen? If so, what do they say? Can you get any screenshots of them?
2) Do you see any unusual icons on your desktop which you are not familiar with? Any icons in the bottom right hand corner near the time?
1) I don't get the pop ups, the people whom I have added in my contact list get pop ups from me with links and urls to places. Such as porn sites. Even though I've never sent it
2) Nope, no wierd icons
If other people are receiving it then their computers might be infected and not yours. Do you know if your version of McAfee is up-to-date with the latest software? If you get a laptop with McAfee software installed then it's mostly a trail version.
The other people might want to try the fre version of Malwarebytes to see if their computer is infected.Or they might want to check this page: http://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1294 and run the Stinger program and/or the FakeAlert program.
I bought my McAfee though, so it shouldn't be a trial.
I can tell them to try and use it, though because its coming from me I think it is from mine. I haven't heard from my friends about them getting it recently, so perhaps its gone (for now) but okay.
