Virus removal help

Last week I had an alert popup, saying I had a trojan that could'nt be quartined. It said to restart and then run scan, which I did,but as soon as I open my internet explorer the same message popped up again.I closed down and then ran the scan again, same thing happened again. After the 3rd time my computer wont get past the administrator login screen. It will load my settings the automatically, saves and closes down. What should I do?

RE: Virus removal help

What is your operating system and service pack?

Try downloading, installing, updating and running the free versions of these two tools & let them clean everything they find, rebooting if asked:

RE: Virus removal help

Have you tried scanning the system with McAfee's command line scanner (from a SuperDAT file)? The best way to use that is to boot up the computer off a bootable CD/DVD/USB flash drive that has BartPE or WinPE installed on it. That will allow you to scan all files in the original Windows environment, even those that would have been locked in memory.

BartPE - http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
WinPE - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709665%28WS.10%29.aspx

I have windows xp. I cant download anything, because I cant get to internet explorer. As soon as I put in my password as the administrator,it loads my settings then immediatly closes back down.

XP ... which service pack?

Can you boot into "Safe Mode With Networking" and try it there? (Reached by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up).
That will give you the internet in Safe Mode.

RE: Virus removal help

I'm having the same problem as grassshopper420. I tried rebooting in safe mode per your suggestion, but the admin account immediately logs off as soon as I log on. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

RE: Virus removal help

Not sure. Paid virus removal perhaps or format and reinstall Windows.
