Virus/Malware probs with SDAT/CMD/McAfee sec suite

Hello

I have searched these forums for a solution similar to mine but unfortunately I cannot seem to find any threads, apologies if a thread does exist.

Technical information:

Fujitsu Siemens laptop using windows XP.

My laptop was infected with a virus which I believe to be malware, it is called “Windows security suite” which is a rogue antivirus software, various messages keep coming up warning me about the amount of Trojans viruses etc I have etc...

This malware/virus has disabled my MacAfee security suite, if I try to open MacAfee nothing happens. So I am unable to update or scan at all.

I then found this article which performs a DOS scan using SDAT

http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/showthread.php?t=177670

The problem I face when trying to attempt this is that when I hit return to “safe mode with command prompt” I am faced with a log in screen with the 4 “Safe modes” in all 4 corners. I enter my log in credentials correctly and hit log in the log in box disappears and I am left hanging to a blank black screen with 4 safe modes in the corners.

I then thought about trying the DOS using command prompt in normal windows. I have click start the run and then typed in “CMD” however it seems the virus/malware has disabled this too!

Is there any way I can perform a DOS scan? Or is there a similar thread around with a solution?

Many Thanks

XP what service pack?

That DOS entry is ancient & I am about to delete it, the up-to-date ones are here: http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?t=157596

Notice that we have switched hosts so update you link to this board to http://community.mcafee.com/

Try a more radical approach with one of our experts boot CD: http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?t=231079&highlight=boot+cd

Or read about this infection and its removal here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-security-suite
(Scroll down that page - don't click the first thing you see).

Safe Mode with Networking should give you a fairly normal desktop, probably magnified somewhat. Obviously that isn't an option for you.

Then you also might want to visit the Microsoft Update website to get SP3 and all the latest patches and updates. Use the "Custom" button to get all the "critical" and "optional" patches/updates.
