What is the procedure for removing the "blasterworm virus" from my machine. I am running McAfee Total Protection and scans are not picking up anything. Thanks for your help.
Any up to date system should be immune to Blaster as it has been covered by Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal tool, which installs monthly with updates, since 2003.
Keep an updated version of THIS software handy for use in such instances. It can be installed, updated and run, all in Safe Mode with Networking, if regular mode proves a problem.Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 26/07/10 8:28:58 EDT AM
I may need to be a little more clear about the problem on my machine. Everything is up to date for XP Home edition.
I have scanned with malware and no bugs found. It does like the old blasterworm did back then. I log onto the internet and I have a pop-up that tells me System Shut Down Initiated and there is a 30 sec. timer. After the time runs out the system shuts down and reboots. You have any suggestions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Understood. That sounds like you have a major problem with either a bad driver, faulty hardware or similar. I think posting on a Windows help forum would be a better idea.
Unless you want to pay the virus removal people but I have a feeling that would be pointless.
Can you use an alternative browser such as Firefox without forcing a restart? If so I suggest downloading & running Hijackthis and posting its log on one of the following forums with your symptoms for expert help:
Do not post Hijackthis logs here, we can't help with those!
Post the logs at a specialist Forum:
Be sure to read all the sticky announcements/instructions at the top of each malware forum!Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 26/07/10 7:38:38 EDT PM
This also may help to stop the reboots until at least the problem can be found: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/disautorestart.htm
