Re: Security shield

Jump to solution

Hi Brit,

Thank you very much, I have done a system restore (Factory restore) which formatted and reinstalled new WIN 7 (Recovery done using DELL Safe local backup), Now all the virus, infections every thing got resolved. McAfee also reinstalled (After the system restore) and updated, Now its fine.

one dought - i am having a licence copy of McAfee security center - Is it enough that it will take care all the malware and spyware related issues. if not is there any possibility of upgrading security center to "McAfee total protection"

only one head ache now is my D drive where i had my important files and folder is showing an unallocated space, when i try to add the "unallocated space" using new partition simple and on giving do not format the partition , it is showing that

"You cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains maximum number of partitions"

I am having only 2 drives (1 is recovery drive and another is OS) at present . Is there any way to recover the files and make a new partition. (the partition is around 220 GB) which is showing under unallocated space in disk management.

Thanks & Regards

If it's the basic McAfee that Dell or whomever provides then it's sufficient unless you want Parental Controls and Anti-Spam as well, do you?  The one you have now will be the basic antivirus, firewall and probably SiteAdvisor browser add-on as well.

You can check what components you have by double-clicking the taskbar icon to open SecurityCenter then, if it's 2009 version click About at lower right-hand corner, if 2010, click Navigation (top-right) then click About.

Regarding the partitions, I'm not really an expert on that except to tell you that the NTFS file ssystem has a finite number of partition possibilites but there are ways around it.

What is your operating asystem and service pack?   (Right-click My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista/Win 7) and select Properties and tell me what that says.

I can then steer you to a specialised forum that will be able to help you with that.

Hi Brit,

You are right, i am having a basic McAfee security center 2009, what should i do/upgrade for making it a total protection Antivirus tool.

If not possible what are extra components of antivirus i should install. (Like Malware software etc..)

Regarding the Partition of my disk - i am using windows 7 x64 bit.

My partition was recovery and OS.

If you have a current subscription you should by now have updated to  the 2010 version.  You'll knoiw when you have it as the taskbar icon  will change from a square one to a shield-shaped one.

Does it not offer an update when you right-click that icon and select Check for Updates?

You could perhaps hasten that process in that case.

Uninstall McAfee via Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program & reboot if asked to.

Run the MCPR removal tool linked HERE. Reboot.

Go to your online account and reinstall McAfee.

If you don't have a current subscription either renew the one you have or go HERE to purchase a new one.
