Search.certified Browser Hijack Virus/Malware

.On Jan 13 I download a file. Ran an Install Program and it seems had a virus or malware attached. I have uninstalled the downloaded program and the deleted the saved file. The virus or malware I Got infected with is (Search.certified.com). At the time I was running Mcafee security center and Malwarebytes Pro neither stopped it. I ran a scan in Malwarebytes it found about ten cookies, quarintined them and deleted. the virus is still there, it changes my default homepage in IE to (Search.certified.com) I changed my home page to Google.com and still loads the otheron first start of IE, when I click to open another tab Google is the home page, another thing my Mcafee fire wall keeps stopping. I running Windows 8 (64 bit). Any Help would be appriciated.

Moved this to Malware Discussion > Home User Assistance.

Googling this item by name got several results and a whole variety of removal methods, each one advertising removal software of various descriptions which I don't necessarily trust.

If Malwarebytes doesn't remove it I would try Superantispyware, linked in my signature below, last link.

If that fails, try running Hijackthis and posting its log on one of the specialist forums I've listed lower down that link.

By the way I too have Malwarebytes Pro but have found that it's best to turn off active protection with McAfee as they seem to occasionally clash.

It's up to you of course.  I usually recommend people only use the free version but bought the license for mine only to test the Pro features.

Re: Search.certified Browser Hijack Virus/Malware

By the way I'm curious why Malwarebytes detected nothing.  I assume it's up to date but under Settings > General and Scanner settings are ALL the  boxes checked?

This was reported by someone a couple of months back.  See

https://community.mcafee.com/message/261428#261428

You'll need to remove the toolbar and any associated add-ons or extensions in your browsers.
