Performanceoptimizer.dll and other adwares related

Earlier tonight, I had Performanceoptimizer.dll and other adwares related to the name and I have no idea how they got there.  I haven't downloaded or installed anything today when this happened.  How does this kind of thing get installed in your computer?  The good news is I was able to remove it.  Actually, I didn't really remove it, I had to do a system restore.  Tried to remove myself but the file claimed that it was opened in another program and I didn't know what to do about that so I just restored the system.

Your Profile says you use an Enteprrise product, can you clarify what McAfee software it is please?

Try running AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes Free from the last link below and note to keep the latter free do NOT accept the free trial. Also I suggest running Hijackthis obtained from lower down that link and post it's log on one of the specialized forums mentioned there.

I moved this to Malware Discussion > Home User Assistance as I think that is the correct area for your post.
