New fake AV programs target Firefox, Chrome, Safari

CNET are reporting that the latest fake AV programs have moved on from mimicking Internet Explorer / Windows 7; they now tailor their alert screens so that users with other browsers will see what appear to be genuine warnings from their browser.

The CNET report gives links to

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/03/02/rogue_av_mimics_firefox/ and

http://research.zscaler.com/2011/03/new-fake-av-page-uses-firefox-internals.html

The good news is that McAfee - after being initially caught out by this new variant - should detect it as Artemis!6950DBA9F13E (see the VirusScan report).
