I recently began having issues with my computer where no programs could access the internet (whereas a laptop could browse the net fine using the same connection). After booting in safe mode, I discovered I could access the internet this way so I updated my antivirus programs. Sitll in safe mode, I ran full scans in both Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and McAfee AntiVirus. The first set of scans both programs found NTOSKRNL-HOOK Trojan (Detection Name: Generic Rootkit.d!rootkit) and claimed to have removed it. However, rebooting into normal mode still yielded no internet access. After starting Windows in safe mode again, I ran both scans again. This time Malware Bytes finds nothing, but McAfee still comes up with the NTOSKRNL-HOOK Trojan.

How do I get rid of this? Any help is much appreciated.
