A few days ago i must have downloaded some virus and a McAfee alert came up that it had found a trojan virus and that I needed to restart my computer. I restarted my computer and then 5 minutes later the same pop-up, saying that there was a trojan virus, came up. I restarted again, but yet again the pop-up showed up after 5 minutes. I did this about 10 times untill i finally just ignored the message becuase I assumed it was a false posative. I ran a full scan and McAfee found nothing, so I assume that my computer is not at risk. Is it at risk, and should I call McAfee support?
I now also have another problem. Once this happen, my firewall turned off. When I click the turn on button, it immidiatly turns off again. I restarted my computer and this doesn't fix it.
Any help would be apreciated, thanks.
Moved this to Malware Discussion just in case. Don't call Support yet or else they'll want to send you over to paid virus removal, which hopefully will be an unnecessary step.
It's possible the malware is still hanging around.
Download and run Stinger and Malwarebytes Free, both linked in the last link in my signature below.
For the latter do NOT accept the trial or you'll end up with the wrong version.
I ran stinger, and it found 2 files with the ZeroAccess.hi virus. I assume that this is bad, and the stinger said that it cannot remove this virus. Is there any other way to get rid of this trojan?
Try running it in Safe Mode. Or use Malwarebytes Free as it can not only be downloaded and installed, but also updated and run all in "Safe Mode with Networking". If those don't help then try the Hijackthis routine last in that link of mine...those specialist forums will troubleshoot what's going on.
