Last night I was on Facebook just sharing some (safe) links to friends over the chat function. All of a sudden Facebook kicks me off my account and says I have a virus called the 'Yahos', which supposedly takes control over your account and sends harmful links to your friends. So I went through what appeared to be the standard procedure for accessing your account again (I checked that this was a legitimate operation from Facebook) and after completing 2 of 5 steps, Facebook instructs me to download 'McAfee Scan and Repair' by clicking the download button that it tells me to click. I have downloaded the software (McAfeeScanAndRepair_Release.exe) and i clicked run.. Then nothing happens.. Tried it several times, aswell as running in XP/Compatabililty mode, running as administrator, running in safe mode, downloaded+run with a different browser. Nothing works! I even checked in the processes and the McAfee Scan and Repair process just dissapears after about 10 seconds of being there!
I would be really grateful if anyone could advise and help me out here, because i'm struggling for ideas as for what to do next.
I can't even contact Facebook about this as they have no customer support!!
(ps. I am quite sure i have no viruses/malicious software on my system as i ran several thorough scans with different antiviruses, as well as doing a system restore to last week!)
Thanks in advance,

Whatever this is, it's not widely used. It may have been available a year or two back, but I can't find many references to it. It doesn't look like malware, which is something. If you have McAfee installed (or any other AV) run a scan now and see what it detects. If you have no AV installed, let us know and we'll advise you what to do.
I've just run complete scans using Avast! and Microsoft Security Essentials (used at different times for no conflicting). Nothing came up..
It's just mind boggling as to why it just doesn't run. I just click run; then absolutely nothing happens.. If the scan doesn't run then i can't get my Facebook account back, which i can't deal with as i have work related communications to deal with.
Sorry if i seemed short tempered, it's just rather annoying.
Hey I also just shared some links to friends in chat , and I have absolutely the same problem as johnzigzagoon !!!
Please anyone knows how to fix this problem ???
I can't help with the Facebook stuff, but I can attempt to work through any McAfee issues.
A couple questions to get me started.
Do you have a download link for McAfeeScanAndRepair_Release.exe?
Can you post a few of the links which prompted this whole thing to begin?
I was just sending some links in chat to my friends on facebook . U know , that kind of links like pictures on Imageshack ,
or something like that . Just normal links . but mostly just images . doesnt matter what links exactly they were ..
One time it asked me to write a code from image ( when i had facebook account without any problems ) , u know . the
image verificiation . maybe I was sending too much links to my friends ...and one time ( today ) it didnt ask for image
verification , it immediately logged me out after i sent one link in chat ...
and when I try to log in , it does this :
1st: " for security reasons , your account is temporary unavailable .. "
2nd: image verification of friends - that is not a problem
3rd: bla bla about viruses
4rd: McAfee thing :
Here Answer for your question - . yes , we have a download link of McAfee.
Fb displays it ( u can see on 4rd pic ) . but I cant install it
I tryed it on my windows xp PC , other xp notebook , and another xp notebook . nothing happens when i click the
installation file . Then i sended it to my friends , one had xp , didnt work for him , second had win 7 , neither worked .
it looks liek this McAfeeScanAndRepair_Release.exe doesnt work for everyone on the planet ....
So , what to do ???on 7/1/11 8:01:16 PM CDT
ComputerWorld has a blog about Facebook being jumpy about user activity when you're logged in, and asking users to run Scan and Repair : the blog can be found HERE.
The relevant section says that the blog writer was able to run Scan and Repair :
Are you still not able to run it?
Oh, and clearly I need to get out a bit more -
Whatever this is, it's not widely used.
