McAfee Artemis ?

Environment: XP/SP3, Sec Center 9, VS 13 PF 10

"Artemis" seems to b at least partially alive, and definitely kicking! VS real-time scan kicks out a module "Shellwash.dll" (part of Webroot's "Shared" modules) as being a trojan known as "Generic!Artemis".

Please take note that both automatic and manual FULL scans do NOT detect the above. I believe this detection is a false positive. The detection is only made while using Windows Explorer (not IE!), browsing "\Program Files\ .....".

This detection necessitates frequent "Restores" from Security Center. This is necessitated as the current state of the installed McAfee products seems not to provide a mechanism for "trusting" a module or file that has been detected as an infection. (The "trust" mechanism seems to work for "potentially un-wanted programs" only). 😞

Any thoughts?

RE: McAfee Artemis ?

Artemis wont be activated until the next generation of home products, probably sometime this fall.

See this solved thread regarding this issue:

RE: McAfee Artemis ?

So, if it has not been activated, then whence originates the detection with a description of "Generic!Artemis", which, when clicked on, displays the "Artemis" detection explanation along with a description of the Artemis engine?

I do not doubt your assertion re Artemis. I am, however, experiencing this detection. How can this be handled? Is an issuance of an "Extra.DAT", or some other fix, the resolution?

RE: McAfee Artemis ?

Follow that link I gave, it explains what to do exactly. If it is a false positive Avert will send an extra.DAT.
