Lot of fuss, no results.

Greetings,

I just downloaded McAfee for the 6 month free trial.  I ran a scan and eliminated all the found threats.  It did nothing for my problem, which is the "Google hijack virus".  (If a search is done on the web, the results are listed correctly, but clicking on any of the links takes you to other, not requested pages).  I have now used 6 programs to detect and correct this problem and nothing works.  I thought McAfee would finally find the problem.  It did find numerous threats but not the one that is still affecting me.  Does anyone have any further ideas on this problem?

Re: Lot of fuss, no results.

No antivirus will stop everything unfortunately.   Moved this to Malware Discussions > Home User Assistance.

I'm obliged to ask you to read this: http://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1294

In this case however I would download Hijackthis and post its log on one of the following forums for expert advice:

DOWNLOAD  HIJACKTHIS

Do not post Hijackthis logs here,  we can't help with  those!

Post the logs at a specialist Forum:

AUMHA  FORUM

BLEEPING  COMPUTER FORUM

MAJOR GEEKS  FORUM

MALWAREBYTES  FORUM

MALWARE  REMOVAL FORUM

SPYWAREHAMMER  FORUM

SPYWARE  INFO FORUM

WHAT  THE TECH FORUM

Be sure to read all the sticky  announcements/instructions at the top of each malware forum!

Re: Lot of fuss, no results.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Why doesn't the McAfee website and promo materials say "No antivirus will stop everything unfortunately."  That might be a bit of honesty that would kill the expectations and hopes of those who are prematurely relieved to be using McAfee.  I'm only talking about fairness here. Could someone make any suggestions as to just what might be going on that most anti-virus programs can't solve this problem (that many seem to have).

Nonetheless, I will do as you suggested in your reply

Re: Lot of fuss, no results.

The same goes for Norton, Kaspersky, Eset, etc. etc. and you don't find them saying that either.  It's a fact and any anti-malware (independent) forum will state that over and over again.

Anyway, good luck.  There are some free tool suggestions here:  http://community.mcafee.com/thread/1996
