I have security center version 9.15.
The virus is asking me if I want to install a new Antivirus software. It then brings up a porn site and a Viagra site. It says the threat is BankerFox.A but I am sure it is something else.I am trying the free on-line scan and it doesn't appear to scan anything.
First of all, how did this get past the software I bought from McAffee? Second, how do I fix it?
I see that there is a service through McAffee that i can pay for. I thought the antivirus software would do this.
I would appreciate your help.
I have the exact same thing happening to my computer. It won't let me get on the McAfee chat to try and get help. I tried downloading another virus software since McAfee won't help but it won't let me do that either. How do you get help with something like this?
Please go to the McAfee Labs page HERE and click on the link for "Stinger v10.0.1.624". This will download a file called Stinger.exe.
Save the file to your desktop and try and double click the file. Does anything open?
If you can run the file then you will now see a small window with some options. Click on "Preferences".
Under "Scan these targets" tick both boxes
Under "On virus detection" select "Delete"
Under "Heuristic network check for suspicious files" select "Very High" from the drop down box.
Select "Scan Now"
If you double click the file and nothing happens, try renaming the file to anything else random e.g. Sunshine.exe. On some systems you might not see the ".exe" part of the file name and so you might just see Stinger, in which case rename it to Sunshine
Now try and run the file by double clicking on it and follow the instructions above. Does this work?
Please let me know how you get on
I also have this virus. I downloaded the Stinger file from my other computer, copied it to the infected computer. I was able to complete the scan, but the virus is still there. I have Windows XP and followed the instructions for that as well. What should I do next?
Did not work for me either. Waste of time. I downloaded a program called Malwarebytes. Got it from another post. It's free
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php It removed the worm - computer seems to be back to normal - Cheers
