RE: I think the computer is just fine now

You should always keep some updated anti-spyware tools handy as anti-virus alone isn't enough these days.

So can I mark this thread solved?

Still having a problem

Hi Peter

I have the full McAfee security suite plus other tools I use as well, so my defense against threats online shouldn't be a problem as long the tools are working. As you well know the full security suite is suppose to protect McAfee customers against all threats.

The tools you recommended got rid of all the infection it worked good for a while, only one problem, the computer is still being hijacked whenever I connect it to the internet. So exactly what is the problem?

I think Art55 may be right, the operating system could be corrupted and I need to re format the hard drive and start all over.

The only other thing I can think of is that Trojans keep taking up residence in my svchost.exe file which McAfee can not find. In that case it is easier to just re program the whole computer than to under take the complex task of manually snuffing out a Trojan on my system. I'm glad I now have my entire Microsoft Office Suite backed up.

If you have any better ideas they sure would be welcome.

RE: Still having a problem

As I said McAfee is good but, like any other security suite, it can't protect against everything out there, that's why we recommend exercising care & installing extra anti-spyware applications here: http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?t=136913 and that you make sure Windows is totally up to date.

In this case it may be in your best interests to download Hijackthis and post its log on one of the following forums along with a description of the symptoms. They have experts at spotting problems and suggesting remedies and it's all free.
