I need to contact McAfee to resolve a virus issue, and I cannot find a place to do so, unless I PAY extra (chat or call)
I thought I have it covered. In fact, I thought I have the subscription (McAfee Anti-virus Plus) to take care of any virus attempt.
Please help. I have some important documents I need asap in my laptop that is not working, but I cannot agree to pay extra to have it fixed.
Where can I get support without paying extra?
Sorry for your frustration., McAfee's Virus Research team is constantly updating its library of 'known' viruses and spyware. At the core of McAfee software is something called 'heuristic' protection...which looks for suspect behavior by any program or file. Even so, the constantly-changing nature of viruses and their different variants makes 100% security impossibility, with any anti-virus software.
Please try to follow the steps in this document Required Reading - Home User Assistance Malware Troubleshooting that would help you deal with an infected computer.

Let me clarify my situation. My laptop is not booting.
It shows the Windows XP symbol when I turn it on, and immediately turns itself off and tries to boot again.
It goes on forever if I don't press the off buttom in my keyboard.
Before it all happened, a McAfee window pop out and stated that my computer was at risk, and I should buy the $49.99 McAfee anti-virus version.
It also showed that my real-time scanning was off. I would turn it on, and it would show on for a few seconds and off again.
It kept doing this and I decided to turn the machine off. I disconnected the internet, and when trying to turn it on again, that's when I saw the booting problem.

I followed the steps mentioned above and that's what I got:
When trying to go to Safe Mode With Networking Support, the computer shut down by itself and reboot it again.
I tried the Save Mode itself, and that's the msg I got:
" A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the 1st time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow this steps:
Check for viruses on your computer.
Remove any newly installed hard drivers or hard driver controllers.
Check you hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

PLEASE HELP! I don't know how to do this. I need instructions, step-by-step. How can I check for viruses, check my hard drive in the
stage my laptop stops????

Hi. The same thing has happened to us today & last week. We have McAfee Total Protection on 3 machines. The 2 viruses we have came in through McAfee & they want to charge me a fee. I recently started a discussion aboe on page 1 here as mrperfume. I called 1-866-622-3911 & worked my way around, but ended up with them wanting to charge me $89.95 for removal via remote access to my keyboeard & mouse to find & remove them. They told me they would call me back within 24 hours, after demanding to speak with a Manager. If they don't fix it, then I'll notify the Federal Trade Commission. We both paid for the software by McAfee with the expectation of it finding, stopping & remiving viruses etc. .
Hope this helps. Take care & good luck!
