The "safeboot" registry key is nothing to do with McAfee - it's a standard Windows registry hive used if you choose the "safe boot" mode from the boot options screen 😉

Yes I gathered that from the start. As I stated I checked the registry and the value is just set to SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\AlternateShell with the rest removed - don't understand why.
