I have downloaded a program called Spy Hunter4 and it has flagged up literally hundreds (going into the thousand) of adware programs, worryingly it seems to have found a ransomware program called Cryptowall, but neither McAffe LiveSafe nor a computer search can find any reference on my computer, is this legit? Surely McAffee would have found this as it is an old program.
I wonder how many of those detections are real and how many are not so they can sell you something. I would not recommend Spyhunter. The Malwarebytes range of products are far better. Just look up the reviews.
Protection against ransomware is difficult as it arrives often in disguise, in an email or a button on a website. It always involves human intervention to activate...someone clicks a link to an unknown source, clicks an attachment on an email from a suspect source, reads spam emails as if they are genuine.....and so on. Warnings may be thrown up by the software via firewall, anti-virus or WebAdvisor.
At the the first sign of trouble do NOT click anything or even move the mouse, power completely off at the power switch, then reboot into Safe Mode and go back to an earlier time using System Restore or system backups that may have been made using proprietary software, Acronis etc.
