Bluescreen / antivirus 2008

I am having the same issue, McAfee did not stop this, I have a full up to date copy. I have finally been able to remove most of the virus, the bluescreen and the pop-up antivirus ads, but I still have a disfunctional IE connection. Example if I try and update any software it does not allow me. I get anywhere from the page does not exsist to you can not download this software messages. I am extremely fustrated. I have been unable to find a customer support number and now my IE window just shuts down on me. I also get redirects when trying to use IE I'll try to hit this site and it will redirect me to some other 'fake' antivirus site. I have to look for help during the day from work, to work on my home compter at night.
PLEASE HELP!

RE: Bluescreen / antivirus 2008

Try downloading and running a scan with either, or preferably both,of these tools.
They are free.

SuperAntiSpyware (SAS)

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

RE: Bluescreen / antivirus 2008

I have tried to download the super Antispyware one, and was unable to get it installed. The virus is actually preventing me from installing virus updates and software. Sometimes it blocks me from downloading them altogether and sometimes it does not allow me to install it.

Super anti spyware, what is that?

I understand this is McAfee forum. I work at a non software company big corporate infrastructure 99% company desktops, laptops, M$ servers with McAfee's. Yeah you can't post HijackThis, CWS, SpybotS&D, SpyDoctor, bla-bla-blah, but why put up your Super AntiSpyware here? Does McAfee make the Super Anti Spyware?

No, and i'm not a mcafee employee or a malware removal expert, just an educated user who has found these tools are currently helping a lot of people solve their problems all over the net. They're available free to home users, so, as they're out there ,available for free and doing the business, why not recommend them to fellow users?

RE: Super anti spyware, what is that?

I am a junior member in this forum, btw, but since McAfee already incorporated anti Spyware in their products, I don't see the need to run your super anti spy ware, SpybotS&D, Adware, Spydoctor, bla-bla-blah. Yesterday I booted my old HP D220 desktop with XP Pro SP3 with 512MB RAM my work gave me and it was taking forever to open Safari browser. I clicked "Run..." several times until it opened "Run" dialog, typed "msconfig" <enter> and clicked the "Startup" tab. I saw suspicious line item:

'snlrmtsi' Rundll32.exe D:\WINDOWS\system32\snlrmtsi.dll",s

I'd seen so many of these weird stuff everywhere at work and fix them myself. So I unchecked 'snlrmtsi' and rebooted. The 'snlrmtsi' was back checked again. So I uploaded the snlrmtsi.dll to my Samba NAS, login to my Unix machine, did "zip -P infected snlrmtsi.zip snlrmtsi.dll" and sent the zip file virus_research@avertlabs.com, booted the XP to safe mode and whacked the snlrmtsi.dll.

Should I just downloaded your sieuper anti spyware stuff instead to get rid of that snlrmtsi.dll?

Oh I didn't realize this forum also read by others who'd entice readers to try theirs so they'll get weird stuff in their computers... Oftentimes downloading a fix will need some other type of fix before I know.
grin

RE: Super anti spyware, what is that?

This is not helpful at all. I was hoping by coming here that someone at McAfee would be on to help since they have no customer support via phone. It seems they have no support of any fashion. I don't beleive I will renew.

To bwawawa:
The "anti spyware that McAfee incorportated" didn't work. So why not bring up other product that may help. I tried you manual method as well, and that didn't work. I tired Microsoft's software... that didn't work. I don't care what I use since what I PURCHASED has failed me!

RE: Super anti spyware, what is that?

Chris, sorry but we are all unpaid volunteers here on this forum. There is paid virus removal and free or paid technical support available.
At least we have a forum. Many protection software applications don't.

There is no such thing as the perfect protection unfortunately. That's why I always recommend people keep some extra anti-spyware tools around as well.

If you can't get rid of the infection then I suggest you download Hijackthis and post its log on one of the following forums for expert help:

I am recently retired and the pc experts in my company fixed all my problems. My question involves something that I am sure is very basic to you. You posted a fix on 07Jul to get me back to my screen savers. I understand how to copy and paste it but question is where do I put it. Thank you.

RE: to bwawawa

Copy and paste it to Notepad. Then click File/Save As and save it somewhere, desktop perhaps, as showalldisplaytabs.vbs
Then you would just have to double-click it to install it.

In answer to an earlier comment about Melboy, we would not allow posts of anything injurious to remain here for more than a few seconds. So accept help where it is offered. He is knowledgeable about such things.
