Antivirus system pro

How can this virus get through the McAfee Security Center that I have running on my machine? This virus is unbelievable - I ended up using other 3rd party freeware products to get rid of this virus but I should not have had to do this. Has anyone else ran into this?

RE: Antivirus system pro

Because it isn't actually a virus or a trojan. No anti-virus engines, no matter what brand, are proof against everything. Just be careful what you click on and download plus keep your system always totally up to date.

According to the best removal guide on the web here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antivirus-system-pro it is

Antivirus System Pro is a rogue anti-spyware that uses false scan results, fake security alerts, and Internet Explorer hijacking in order to have you purchase this program.

Re: RE: Antivirus system pro

Friends:

I also caught the Antivirus System PRO virus yesterday.  After searching and reviewing all related posts on this forum, I downloaded the Malwarebytes program and followed all the steps.  Unfortunately, it did not work at all.  I ran Malwarebytes twice, and the second time it indicated that no objects were infected.  I still have the Antivirus System PRO program on my computer and all the related issues.  I tried manually updating the Malwarebytes program, shutting the computer off, etc., but nothing is working.

Any recommendations?  I am extremely frustrated and disappointed after initially being encouraged that the Malwarebytes program would do the trick.

Thanks.

Re: Antivirus system pro

This is mind boggling, I to got the Antivirus system pro yesterday and I wonder how many more? I to was considering a third party product for removal and can't believe that McAfee told me to do that rather than opening some of their resources after I had purchased their 3 PC protection. The e-chat I had with McAfee late last night/early this morning , left me with a big hole in what I use to consider the Virus Experts that were bullet proof. Basically, they told me to look else where if I didn't want to "Pay" for the "Fee" removal service. My big concern is paying for something that got through their defenses.

I have never bashed any service before but I am really upset over this one.

Re: Antivirus system pro

None of the anti-virus engines are equipped to handle such things.  Hence these other tools and methods of removal.  I'm sorry but unless you want to pay McAfee for professional removal or some other party for the same, then what I'm offering is your best bet, short of a complete format and reinstallation of your system.

Re: Antivirus system pro

I was successful in removing Antivirus System Pro. I will share my experience.

I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes (see previous post), but it would not run successfully until I disconnected my computer from the internet. Then the Quick Scan worked fine. My computer is now free of Antivirus System Pro.

I am extremely unhappy with the way that TWO of the McAfee support people treated me . . . as if I was dumb, and would never figure it out. They sure did push for me to pay the $89.95 for their people to do it. They know the solution, but they will not share it. Aggravating! If it were just one of them, I might be persuaded that it was just that person's approach, but since both of them acted the same way, I must believe that it is McAfee policy to try to make money off this. I do not plan to renew my subscription.

I'm glad you are OK now but I trust that you are not referring to me in that remark "I am extremely unhappy with the way that TWO of the McAfee support people treated me . . . as if I was dumb, and would never figure it out." because that certainly was not my intention and in any case I am not McAfee, only an unpaid volunteer user.  I merely steered you to one solution and then another.

Re: Antivirus system pro

You are correct, Ex-Brit. I was not referring to you. I was referring to the two McAfee support people I spoke with. Thank you for your contributions to this forum. Without people like you, we would be at the mercy of companies like McAfee..
