Recently McAfee detected Adware-B Protect in my computer and confirm to put it in quarantine, which I said yes and run Full computer scan, since than when ever I start I restart my computer, I got a shortcut of "desktop.ini" on desktop, despite deleting it several times I couldn't get rid of it. Is it related to that Adware?
Wonder I have deleted that Malware, why its component has been left behind on my PC, I am using Windows 8.
Appreciate if some one can help me with issue.
desktop.ini is a windows system file deleting it will get windows to re-spawn it.
Some malware infect this file so to be sure run several of the scanners I mention in the free scanners link in my signature.
With Malwarebytes do not install the premium trial its real time scanners could clash with McAfee install the free version. With getsusp add your email address to the program's preferences so McAfee can update you if they find anything
Also if you are worried post the desktop.ini files to www.virustotal.com and see if there are any detections as well

I think I may have found you something reasonably useful. After sifting through numerous articles that yielded zero, this one had the most positive responses. Maybe it will help and it has pictures to assist along the way. Please read through the entire article so you don't get stuck unnecessarily on step 5. Some folks figured what needed to be done ultimately and everyone was happy. So go slow, especially around the registry mentions.
I might add, a very interesting/Informative Article. As you stated, one has to be very observant when tinkering with "Registry Items" Not everyone is as "Tech Savy", if you will.
