but there is no other anti-virus software on my mac. everything is removed, except for the mcafee icon in my menu bar from my free trial a few months ago - could this be the problem? i don't even know how to remove that.
Please try the following:
Click on Finder,->Go to Applications->then double-click McAfee Security Uninstaller.
Type the Administrator password when prompted and click OK. – It will uninstall all the existing McAfee files automatically
i can't find a mcafee security uninstaller. it's not in my applications, and when i searched for it in this mac it didn't show up.
You will have to manually remove them by going to the certain hidden folders on Mac Hard Drive
Go to /usr/local & remove VI2, SpaMini & McAfee folders
Go to /system/library & remove McAfee folder
Go to /library/application support & remove McAfee & Verizon for VISS folders
Restart the computer
Sometimes those folders will be locked and you will not be allowed to delete them. In that case, you will then have to use terminal commands to unlock & remove them.
did all of that, and i've doublechecked everything to the best of my ability. i've restarted it, and still it says there's anti-virus software somewhere.
I seem to be having the same problem, yet ive only had one free antivirus, which I uninstalled. but I still get the error. Please help, thanks, Tropics.
It would be good see the System Profiler output.
More than likely, it would some other security software which we detect while installing.
