on access always disabled on ubuntu laptop

Some months ago we had to install  McAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Linux  for a Linux Laptop. I don't remember but i though it was the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Linux 2.0.1. We were able to install VSE and the ePO agent but we were not able to make it works or better to  enable on-access service and at some point we gave up, because that laptop had particular software and needed too much time to reinstalled from scratch.

We trieed to manually enable the service with /opt/NAI/LinuxShield/bin/nails on-access -e

we tried to unistall and reinstall with

dpkg --purge mcafeevseforlinux

dpkg --purge mfecma

dpkg --purge mfert

but nothing

Now we had to retry with VirusScan Enterprise for Linux 2.0.3, and expecting to have the same, how we can troubleshoot the problem?

When we unistall the Antivirus there is some additional tools to clean the system like in windows with MCPR tool    or unistalling via dpkg is enought?
