Performance complaints from Mac users with McAfee Endpoint Protection for Mac 2.1

Hi,

We started using McAfee Endpoint Protection for Mac 2.1 on our Mac clients, but we get performance related complaints.

One of the users also reported a few freezes.

Here is an event from the system log of the client that maybe can indicate the source of the issue?:

15:49:57 kernel: process VShieldScanManag[100] caught causing excessive wakeups. Observed wakeup rate (per sec): 215; Maximum permitted wakeup rate (per sec): 150; Observasion period: 300 seconds; Task lifetime of wakeups: 106891

We already tweaked the Policies like this

Used Config:

No Exclusions (yet), Are there any whitepapers for best exclusion practices for Mac?

regards,

D.

Re: Performance complaints from Mac users with McAfee Endpoint Protection for Mac 2.1

Hi,

We have 1500 macs in our fleet and we exclude the following:

/Users/.*/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/.* (Outlook identities database to prevent constant rebuilds)

/.*\.vmdk (Fusion VM Files)

/.*\.pvm (Parallels VM files)

/Applications/.*/Contents/(version|Info).plist (plist files)

/System/Library/Spotlight/.* (Spotlight indexing)

We also have some specific extension excluded for files standard with our industry (media audio and viseo files for the suite of production tools we use), but the above are our standard exclusions.

McAfee put out a recommended "best practice" exclusion list, as well.  You can find it in the 2.x Product Guide.

Looks life you've configured some of these per previous suggestions.  Depending on corporate security policy/risk acceptance, you may want to exclude email database files, as well.  Risk should be minimal with this if you have an email gateway product with AV scanning on your perimeter.

Hi,

Did any of the additional exclusions help with your issues?
