NAILS process fails to start due to md5 file being empty.

I recently upgraded our servers to VSEL 1.9.1 and applied the two hotfixes. After the upgrade the nails service fails to start due to a missing md5 checksum in the /opt/NAI/Linuxshield/etc/md5 file (the file is empty). Calculating the checksum is trivial, however I do not know what to base the calculation on. Anyone have suggestions?

Re: NAILS process fails to start due to md5 file being empty.

Hi jacobsjw,

I encountered this error due to 'ed' not being installed. Once installed, the (re)installation of VSEL worked fine, and the MD5 were correctly populated.

EG:

RHEL: yum install ed

Deb/Ubuntu: apt-get install ed
