A couple related questions:
I found this question from 2012 ( ) which seemed to be similar but there wasn't really much of a discussion.
Looking in Activity Monitor, I find the following:
VShieldScanner PID 83 - started by launchd PID #1
VShieldScanner PID 74256 - started by VShieldScanner PID 83
VShieldScanner PID 74255 - started by VShieldScanner PID 83
VShieldScanner PID 74254 - started by VShieldScanner PID 83
The first instance regularly sits at 0% CPU.
The other three instances run continually and show 10-40% CPU even when no user activity is occurring on the system.
System details:
Macbook Pro Retina
OS X 10.11.6 (15G1217)
McAfee Endpoint Security for Mac 10.2.1 (2632).
Threat Prevention 10.2.1 (6168)
I will ping Rich also PK as he is familar with Mac products also..
Hi ironrod
Yes it is common to have more than one cshieldscanner process running.
I can't remember the reasoning right now, but one of the product team have answered this in the past. I'll try and track down the thread and add it here tomorrow.

Thank you Rich
I'm having the same issue with multiple users, and want to know how we can find out what VShieldScanner is doing.
I'm having this same issue. It doesn't appear that this user's post was ever resolved. I have three (3) separate VShieldScanner processing running taking up a total of around 2.1 GB of memory. Here are my system specs:
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) / 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
20 GB of Memory: 1333 MHz DDR3
Sierra Version 10.12.6
Total Protection Version: Unknown - times out when I launch to get the version #
I have 8 running. Guess I should be happy it's only using about 1 gig of memory though. Still, 1 gb for an 8 gb machine is a lot.
Is there any resolution on this? Thankfully this is on a personal machine, though I use it for work, so I'm about to uninstall/not renew because it's using way too many resources and getting in the way of productive work.
Have seen the same issue on my IMAC. Did notice a hotfix HF1226732, Feb 13th 2018. In the release notes it mentions a fix for "Intermittent issue of multiple on-access scanners getting spawned is no longer experienced"
May try this hot fix next week.
