Enable Syslog through Shell for LinuxShield 1.5.1 on RHEL 5.3

Jump to solution

We have a couple of RedHat Linux servers with LinuxShield 1.5.1 installed.  Does anyone know how to enable the event logging to Syslog using Shell or a text editor?  I do not have a GUI interface available for the servers.

Hiya,

We don't generally recommend editing the config file manually - however it can be useful as in this case. Try these steps:

  1. At the prompt, type the following commands:

    cp /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/nailsd.cfg ~/nailsd.cfg.bak
    vi /var/opt/NAI/LinuxShield/etc/nailsd.cfg

  2. Find the line starting with log.useSyslog: false and change to log.useSyslog: true
  3. Find the line with log.syslogDetailLevel: low -> and set this to either low, normal or high. Low will produce minimal logging, High will produce maximum.
  4. Save the file and restart nails.

Thanks,

Rod.
