internet security for mac's firewall settings blocks apple's time capsule

Jump to solution

Hi,

I'm having a new iMac and recently bought the internet security suite for mac.

I also have a apple time capsule with is set as a wireless bridge after my router from the provider.

The time capsule has a 2tB hard drive with can work such as a NAS in my home network.

Now i also have 2 PC's withe mc Afee on it and there isn't any problem there.

On the mac when i install my McAfee product it works fine. Maybe to fine cause now i can't acces my hard drive's anymore. Internet connection is working.

When i uninstall Mc Afee all works well. of course i bought the extra product for the mac to get some extra protection.

Can anyone tell me what settings to use on the firewall from McAfee on the Mac

please confirm whether your NAS device has an IP (range perhaps) so that we can add it to McAfee Firewall list and give full access to the Network. By doing so you will be able to allow execution of the App and full network access.

Since we Mods do not use Mac, Felt you would be better assisted in this area.

Also, you have the option to contact Technical Support 24/7

Thx for your reaction. It has a Ip adres designated from the router of the provider which i in the 192.168.0.x range of my network. So it's always the same ip in my network.

Can't figure out how to add it to the firewall list for full acces.

thx

Thx you both put me ont hew ay resolving the problem.

I had to set is as a private trusted network and it still didn't work.

There was also a rule that UDP was blocked. With this out of the way it al seems to work properly.

The TimeMachine backups need Bonjour to find the disk (the TimeCapsule or whatever your destination is).   You need  1900/UDP enabled for the thing to find the backup disk.    Also enabling 5353/UDP makes the Airport Utility discovery stuff work.     The file transfer is on 548/TCP (Apple Filing Service).   This is outbound only from your client so you shouldn't need a rule for that.

There's definitely some bugs in the "Manage Rules" system on LiveSafe.   Periodically pressing SAVE causes it to put in different ranges than what was typed (sometimes just reverting to some old version).   Further Save and even sometimes closing the windows doesn't cause the rules to be applied.   I found that sometimes I need to twiddle from Public to Home/Work and back again to get the rules to switch.
