Ok... Finally managed to get through to McAfee Tech Support at the 5th attempt this morning. I was advised to shut down my Mac, then disconnect my Time Machine drive and external HD housing my iTunes media. Restart my Mac then attempt installation again. Worked first time . Shut down again, re-attached my external drives and everything AOK. Apparently, the Master Installer scans, every drive for software before installing McAfee. As my time machine is an almost full 2TB disk and the iTunes drive is another 1TB, it was always going to take an age.

Thanks for your reply catdaddy.
I did follow the steps as per the guidelines until I got to the "McAfee Master Installer". There, in Step 1 I got the message "Hang on...We're checking for software that might not work properly with McAfee software you're installing" and that's as far as I have gone.
Do you by chance have any existing Security Applications installed that would cause issues?
You can always contact Technical Support for assistance as well 24/7, via Online Chat being much quicker:
Click anywhere on the Desktop Screen of MAC.
Click on "Go" at the top and choose "Goto folder" from the Drop down menu
Type /var/logs/ and grab both the files in my earlier post.
Attach those two files in your next reply (You can use Advanced Editor to attach files in your reply)
Ok, tried that. Get the message 'The Folder can't be found' ?
I'm on Yosemite. I did previously have McAfee installed, but uninstalled it a few weeks ago as had thought I would be changing to a competitor due to cost. McAfee subsequently gave me a discount and now I can't re-install. They're getting their own back I think. Should have left things well alone :-)
Please try path /var/log/ and see if you are able to locate the below files
