can't install LiveSafe on Dell DIm9200 with Vista OS

Jump to solution

OK, I know that we shouldn't continue with Vista- but I'm only going to use the PC as a backup. It recently was running  Norton AV. It was  my wife's PC and it was her Norton subscription- so it happened to run out. I know I can install more devises with my LiveSafe account so I tried installing it- no luck. Error message: "76567". So I  looked that up and saw a suggestion to download McUpdFix.zip- then from that- run McCertUpd.exe. I did that. Then I tried installing again (by downloading all the files- then trying the install). Got same error message. There is a page on the McAfee web site which discusses this. It says "if you need help with above steps, contact Technical Support (which term is a link) and provide this article number (TS102964). But if clicked on Technical Support- nothing happens. I doubt that my PC is - a Dell DIM9200 is lacking anything. Big hard drive (I replaced original with a SSD). If I can't get McAfee LiveSafe installed, I suppose I'll install W10 but I'd prefer to not spend the money for that.

Hello @joezo

The steps you have followed is almost right but there are few extra steps that should be performed to install McAfee

Please follow the complete steps below,

  • Clear temp files
  • Go to Run command, type temp and press enter
  • Delete all the files
  • Go to Run command again, type %temp% and press enter
  • Delete all the files from this location as well
  • This wont delete your permanent files, just temporary files. And clearing them will always speed up your computer
  • Ensure there are no McAfee traces
  • Download McAfee Removal Tool to remove old traces
  • Unzip McUpdFix.zip and save it on the desktop
  • It should create a folder named McUpdFix on the desktop
  • Open the folder and you should see McUpdFix folder again, please open it
  • Now you should see some list of files. Don't open or run any files
  • Select the address bar and copy the entire path
  • Go to your McAfee Account. Download McAfee installer
  • Run the installer
  • It will ask to continue with Complete or Custom install
  • Don't click any of these options
  • Open a command prompt as Admin[Right click command prompt and run as Admin]
  • Type cd\ and enter
  • Now type cd leave a space, right click on the command line where you see the cursor and paste. Hit enter
  • It should display as C:\Users\joezo\Desktop\McUpdFix\McUpdFix\
  • Now type RefreshCert.bat and hit enter
  • It should ask you to continue, hit any key to continue
  • It may ask you to continue once or twice. Please hit enter to continue
  • Now go back to the installer windows where it asks you to select Complete or Custom Install
  • Select Complete
  • The installer should run and complete installing McAfee

Note that I've assumed joezo as your computer name and it display as C:\Users\joezo\Desktop\McUpdFix\McUpdFix\. It could be different as you might have given a different name for your computer.

The above steps should install McAfee. Please let us know the outcome.

Regards,
Madhan M
